The countdown has officially begun, as 2023 will be the year that King Charles III's coronation will be held. The coronation of King Charles III has been the topic of discussion for months now, with everyone curious as to how the event will play out. When will the coronation of King Charles III be? The official date has now been set and it will take place on Saturday 6th of May. The coronation ceremony will only be one part of the many events, festivities and celebrations that are likely to occur. As is tradition, the specific plans regarding the coronation are being kept top secret, but some details are being released to the public with more to come. Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the coronation of King Charles III so you know what coverage you’ll want to tune in for.

The Coronation Will be a Three-Day Event

One of the most important details being released about the coronation is that it will be a three-day event complete with an additional UK bank holiday on Monday 8th May. It seems as though many people were already anticipating a King Charles III coronation bank holiday, so this comes as no surprise. Currently, there is a push for people to get involved wherever and however possible in terms of volunteering for projects that are part of the event. It is such a big push that it even has a name - the Big Help Out. Throughout the three days, there will be countless community events and they will need volunteers to run smoothly. The goal is to have everyone feel as though they are part of the Charles 3 coronation ceremonies from start to finish, regardless of where they live in the UK.

There Will Be Modern Infusions Added to the Ceremony

Another detail that has been released is to watch for new and modern infusions during the King Charles III coronation. While much of it will remain traditional, the Palace has put out an official statement reading that it will, "reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future". Many are expecting the coronation to be smaller and shorter than Queen Elizabeth II's, but that is just a guess at this point.

Unclear of Who Will Appear on the Balcony

A big question swirling right now is who will appear on the Palace balcony, as there has been much speculation. So far, that's all it is, just speculation, as the Palace has not confirmed who will be in attendance. With all eyes from around the globe on the King Charles III coronation ceremony, details such as who will appear on the balcony will make a huge impact on the world stage.

A Much Smaller Attendance is Expected

When Queen Elizabeth II had her coronation in Westminster Abbey there were over 8,000 guests. Because the Abbey only has a capacity of 2,200 it required a massive amount of temporary additional seating to be installed. The guest list hasn’t been released for the coronation of Charles III, but, again, many are guessing it will be much smaller than 8,000. Typically, the coronation is attended by the Houses of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Royal Family, heads of state and additional Royals from around the world.

Know How the Coronation Ceremony Will Unfold

The big question of, "when is King Charles III coronation taking place" is finally answered, and as mentioned, the event will take place from the 6th of May. The crowning will take place on Saturday 6th May, making this the biggest day of the three-day weekend. The stages of the coronation are broken down into a few steps which are:
  • The recognition
  • The oath
  • The anointing
  • The investiture
  • The enthronement and homage
Many people have questioned what will happen with the Queen Consort, and the official statement is that she will be anointed after the King and then crowned. As for what time King Charles III coronation will take place, those kinds of specific details are yet to be released. People want to be sure their schedule is clear, and they can be in front of the television to tune in.

Music Will Play a Role

It appears as though music will play a role during the weekend celebrations with a concert to be held at Windsor Castle in the evening on Sunday 7th May. Some of the acts that will perform include the National Health Service choirs, refugee choirs, deaf singing choirs, LGBTQ singing choirs and the "Coronation Choir". The concert will be televised with more acts to be announced, making it another must-see television moment. As details continue to be released, one thing is for certain, and that is the fact that the coronation is shaping up to be the event of the year. As the coronation draws closer, the expectation is that more specific details will be released by the Palace. Buckingham Palace
