Get The Most Out Of Your Time Here
Hey! Since you’re studying English with us at our language school in London this summer, we want you to get the most out of your time here, not just in the classroom but outside, too! London is amazing, but there are also fantastic places nearby that you can easily visit on day trips or weekends. These spots are perfect for practising your English, meeting new friends from other countries, and experiencing British culture firsthand.
Cambridge is just about an hour away by train and is one of our favourite trips for students. The university there is world-famous, and the architecture is breathtaking. While you’re there, you can take a punt ride on the River Cam—a great chance to practice your English by talking with the friendly boat guides. Plus, there’s the Cambridge University Language Exchange, where many of our students have gone to meet other learners and native speakers. These meetups are casual and fun, and we often help students find them!
Oxford is another classic choice, only an hour from London. We recommend joining one of the English-speaking walking tours there to practice listening and speaking while seeing the beautiful colleges. Oxford’s English Conversation Clubs, often at the Oxford Central Library, are a favourite among our students. It’s a relaxed way to meet locals and other learners just like you. When you come to class, ask us—we can tell you exactly when and where these happen!
If you want to chill by the sea, Brighton is just an hour away and perfect for a day out. Our students love the lively atmosphere and the famous Brighton Pier. Even better, Brighton has weekly language exchange nights at pubs like the Park Crescent. These are great opportunities for you to practice your English, meet people from all over the world, and make new friends outside the classroom. We can help you find these meetups or even go together!
For a taste of British royalty, Windsor is just 30 minutes away by train. Many of our students visit Windsor Castle with its easy-to-understand English audio guides—perfect for learners. Windsor Library also hosts monthly language exchange meetups, which we sometimes organise4 group trips to. It’s a fun, friendly place to practice English and experience local life.
If you have a bit more time, a weekend trip to Bath is highly recommended. It’s about two hours away and famous for its Roman Baths and stunning Georgian architecture. The University of Bath runs a Language Café where our students often practice speaking with native speakers. Plus, social clubs like CircleUp organize events like hikes and brunches, ideal for meeting people and chatting in English in a relaxed way. We can help you plan this trip and even put you in touch with others going.
Finally, Canterbury is another favorite among our students, about 90 minutes from London. Its historic cathedral and medieval streets are amazing to explore. The Canterbury Library runs weekly language exchange meetups, and summer festivals make it easy and fun to practice your English. If you want, we can help you find the best times to visit and join these events.
Remember, learning English isn’t just about textbooks—it’s about using the language in real life. These trips and meetups are fantastic ways to boost your confidence and make your summer in England unforgettable. We’re here to help you every step of the way—from booking transport to finding the right conversation groups.
Just ask us at the school—we’re happy to help you plan your adventures and practice your English outside class!
