Students can wear face masks if they wish to

As businesses and shops begin to reopen and the world embraces a ‘new normal’, it is understandable that many people feel worried about attending school, taking part in events or even socialising with friends. While it is perfectly natural to feel anxious about returning to school after a long break due to the pandemic, you can rest assured that steps are being taken to maintain a COVID-secure environment.

To ease your fears about going back to school after lockdown, take a look at how ABC School of English is providing a safe environment for students and why now is a great time to enrol on an English course:

1. Social Distancing in School

In line with government guidelines, we’ve updated our floorplan to facilitate social distancing in every part of the school. When you arrive for classes, you will be asked to go directly to your classroom, rather than checking in at reception or spending time in a waiting room. This minimises the amount of foot traffic and makes it easier for students to remain one metre apart at all times.

As you know, social distancing is designed to reduce the risk of the virus or other illnesses being transmitted from one person to another. By implementing social distancing requirements on-site, we are helping students to stay safe and make the most of their time in London.

2. Small Class Sizes

To facilitate social distancing in classrooms, we have reduced our maximum class sizes to just six or eight students. This ensures that students and teachers can remain at least one metre apart, but it also means that you will get to spend more speaking time with your teacher. When class sizes are reduced, students can get to know each other better, build friendships more quickly and, crucially, learn even faster. By enrolling on an English course at ABC School now, you will have peace of mind that we are re making every effort to keep you safe and benefit from intensive teaching and small class sizes.

3. PPE and Face Masks

Staff and students are asked to wear face masks or visors when in the reception area and when moving around the school. Although face marks and visors aren’t mandatory in classrooms, you are welcome to wear them in class, if it makes you feel safer.

In addition to this, hand sanitiser is widely available throughout the school, as are handwashing facilities. Keeping your hands clean is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19, which is why we are consistently restocking our supplies and making them easily available to students.

4. Open Windows and Doors

Keeping indoor areas well-ventilated can reduce transmission rates, so you can expect to see open windows and doors as you move around the school. Of course, having increased ventilation makes for a more comfortable learning environment too. While you can enjoy a great British summer while studying in London, the extra ventilation will ensure that fresh air helps to keep you cool and comfortable in class.

5. Easy Access to COVID-19 Tests

Regular testing helps to identify both asymptomatic and symptomatic cases of COVID-19 and you may need to receive a negative test result before you can travel the UK, depending on where you are currently located. If so, we can put you in touch with the COVID Testing Network (CTN). As there are numerous different types of COVID tests, it is important that you take the right one before attempting to travel. With advice from the CTN, you can confirm whether you need to take a test before travelling, which tests are required, and where they can be completed.

6. London is Re-Open

Although government guidelines mean that some venues, such as nightclubs, will remain closed for longer, the vast majority of attractions and businesses are now open. What is more – they are adhering to the strict government guidelines too and ensuring that their premises are COVID-secure to protect guests and staff. Whether you want to ride the London Eye, visit the Victoria & Albert Museum or simply enjoy strolling down Oxford Street or relaxing in Hyde Park, you will be able to explore London and make the most of everything this wonderful city has to offer.
