Why do we use the Callan Method?

We have decided to use the Callan Method as we think it is the quickest and the most reliable method of teaching English. The Method was founded in 1960 and has since proved itself to be very popular among students. Due to the unique nature of the Method the student will speak for much of the lesson. This is very important, as the only way to learn to speak a language is to speak it.

Speed, correction and repetition are the basis of the Method:

• Speed – the lessons are taught at a fast speed. There is no time to think and translate into your own language. This quickly improves your confidence and speaking skills.



• Correction – you will listen and speak for most of the lesson and all your mistakes will instantly be corrected by your teacher.



• Repetition - the lessons are taught through constant repetition and revision of grammatically correct sentences.

What is the Callan Method?

It is a direct method created specifically to enhance the student’s comprehension and speaking abilities in a pleasant yet intensive atmosphere. The question-answer format of the lesson ensures that the student is actively involved in listening and using the language to a maximum. The teacher keeps the lesson moving swiftly in order that the student learns to understand English at its natural spoken speed.

Free trial lessons

We offer three days of trial lessons which you only pay for if you sign on. We do not offer trial lessons during July and August.

Level test

On your first day at ABC School, we will test your level of English and assign you to the appropriate class. From then on, we will assess your progress and closely monitor your speed of learning. This personal approach allows us, with confidence, not only to prepare you for the Cambridge examinations, but also for further study and career opportunities.

A written guarantee to pass the Cambridge examinations During your trial lessons you will receive a written guarantee stating the number of hours you need to pass the Cambridge examinations. If after the predicted number of hours you are unsuccessful, we will give you free lessons until you succeed.

Our teachers

All our teachers are native English speakers, CELTA qualified, educated to degree level and thoroughly trained to teach using the Callan Method. Choosing the best teachers is our priority as experience has taught us that the careful selection of our teachers is vital for students’ success.

Callan Method Certificate

On completion of his/her studies the student will receive a Callan Method Certificate stating the level he/she has reached.

Reception

Our friendly and experienced staff will:

• Offer information on a range of issues, including accommodation, student cards, London Transport Oyster card discounts and bank accounts
  
• Arrange a variety of activities such as theatre, cinema, parties and sports events for you to enjoy while studying at ABC school. A great way to enjoy London and makes new friends.
